Take a look at the this Retro-Billboard News clipping. Just this weekend I listened to some of my mom & dad's record albums from back in the day...Alfonso Ramos y su Orquesta, Vicente Fernandez, Freddie Martinez, Angelica Maria and others. (Yes, I own a RECORD PLAYER!)
I first saw this clip online at Tony Guerrero's photo gallery. It is a must see! There are great photos there along with interesting information about the Tortilla Factory and Bobby Butler El Charro Negro. Mr. Guerrero was recently in contact with us, (How fortunate for us!) and I thought I would share a few links so you can learn about him, the Tortilla Factory and the next generation of Guerrero talent. Here are some links he shared with us: http://www.tortillafactory.biz/home.htm http://www.tortillafactory.biz/bio3.htm http://www.myspace.com/202386604

Here is a YouTube video of Joe singing the song he mentions during the Tejano Beat interview, 'En Aquel Baile' -- Agosto 19, 2008
Gary Hobbs Gary also performs Friday night (8/22), but he'll be at the New West! Some would not classify La Mafia as Tejano, while others would---What do you think? To make an informed decision, check them out at: ESCAPADE 2010 Experience Tejano at its finest Puro Tejano Concert series--every Wednesday night. This Wednesday see DAVID LEE GARZA y LOS MUSICALES!

In case you are not familiar with the song, here is a clip from YouTube:
"After the Dance there were no eating places. The hotel should set up a buffet and drinks!" "Too many pauses at the dance. In Vegas the music never stopped. Also, how can they run out of Bud Light not one, but two nights! Vegas was better." The following comments were anonymous: "After the Dance, there is VEGAS and it doesn't close down." "There were fewer Tejanos in Vegas." "The crowd seemed younger in Texas." "It was better organized in Las Vegas." "Registration line was too long." "The (Fan Fare) set up was much better in Dallas. There was hardly any room in Vegas" "The dance floor at Vegas was a lot smaller. Everything is bigger in Texas!" If you have anything to add, I just received this post via email: "I think moving the Tejano Convention to Dallas was a great decision, considering the majority of Tejanos live in Texas, which I believe made the convention a HUGE success. I think it's a great idea that the Convention gets moved around, than centralize in 1 location. It showed unity amongst Tejanos and other Latino genres, such as "Reggaeton, and "Norteño" who combined together and shared a weekend in a genre that is "supposedly dead". It was an honor and a privilege be have been a part of it. Can't wait for next year!! We need more Hispanic media coverage, for such Tejano events as this, in the DFW area. Que Viva El Tejano! Aaajjuuuuaaa!!!"
El viernes se dio a conocer la noticia del final de RBD, anuncio que cayó como un balde de agua fría tanto a seguidores del grupo como también a algunos de sus integrantes. » Siga leyendo "RBD dice adiós" Agosto 17, 2008
Very little sleep & achy feet but the only Wasted days and Wasted nights from this weekend was Rick Trevino's rendition of Freddy Fender's song that hit No.1 on the country chart also made the top 10 on the pop chart in 1975! The moment I returned home from Saturday's events, I logged on and uploaded the half decent photos from my little camera. (Hey, I like that--"LOG & LOAD") Friday night's technology fiascoes did not allow for real time blogging, but I am sincerely appreciative of the opportunity to at least get some pics online, and provide some insight. Here are photos from Saturday night once again---without all the stars and in a slow slide: These are from Sunday afternoon: I noticed the MALO VIDEO wasn't that great-- Here ya go, take a look at this one: Agosto 16, 2008
Sergio "Sarge" Salas, like many artists, comes from a musical family ---his father, Lawrence Salas, played guitar and was a band leader in austin Texas. Lawrence was recognized in "Sonidos del Barrio" a Showcase by the Austin Latino Music Association ALMA'sTrail of Tejano Legends helps to highlight artists that contributed to Austin's live music scene long before Austin became know as the "Live Music Capital of the World."
Sergio Salas is the Drummer for Avizo Band from Houston, Texas. (I thought it was cute that he pointed out his name is 'Salas' spelled the same backwards!)
Rebecca Valadez was at the summit, and this is worth mentioning for many reasons, but the reason I do is to share this cool fact about her... as a teenager she performed in Spectrum APF, a song-and-dance troupe that toured with a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles state show in 1992. Too cool! In her part of the presentation she states "Tejano Music is Music made in America like Rock & Jazz." Another couple of interesting bits that came up were about Jay Perez. One, he is a big fan of karaoke! Another is that after performing together on last, members of Malo are now BIG Jay Perez Fans!! You may know MALO and not even know it...have you heard the song ">Suavecito? Oh & by the way, Jorge Santana is related to Carlos---they are brothers. Other comments were ... We need to work together to grow Tejano back. In order to do that we need to support each other.
» Siga leyendo "Convención Nacional de Música Tejana: Segundo Día" Random thoughts/quotes that stood out from yesterday's forums... There were many great points brought up at a forum yesterday called Tejano Music Today, the state of the industry...here are a few: Tejano music really hitting in pockets of Mexico. Music is cyclical---It wasn't long ago people were saying Rock was dead, and then came Nirvana Pronunciation of Spanish lyrics is very important! ***************************** The sounds were amazing! The pace and rhythm of walk was controlled by the music---Tejano Sound Band from Lansing, Michigan was the first band I heard. I recall walking around the booths simply amazed at the accessibility to the bands, and LEGENDARY PIONEERS of Tejano Music! Oh, and the sounds---so many bands, so little time. Everyone I met was so friendly! I didn't know Elida Reyna had a line of cosmetics, but she had a booth set up there for her music and cosmetic line. http://elidaonline.com/Elida_Cosmetics.html Even Later at the Dance... I arrived early and couldn't believe the set up---I guess I wasn't expecting so many tables and chairs---and later a majority of were filled, but not all of them. Although I was told tonight we should expect an even bigger turnout. At one point it was announced that there were people present from least 20 states! I know there were folks from California, Illinois, Michigan, Missouri, Colorado, and of course Texas---so I wonder about the other 14 states. Hmm... Frustrated with technology, and trying to absorb everything going on I was wishing everyone could be there to experience this, or at least have an opportunity to see it televised! Hey, wait a minute---why isn't there a local show like that somewhere in North Texas?! I know in Corpus Christi there is the Domingo Live! Show, and there was also Johnny Canales Show. Maybe there is and I just can't get it in Red Oak where I live! IF YOU CAN MAKE IT TONIGHT, TICKETS ARE $65.00 www.tejanoticket.com Some folks might think that is too much for one night and I can see why, especially with the price of gas to get here if you are coming from out of town, and then costs for food and hotel----but if you think about it, how much would you end up paying to see each of these artists in travel and cover charges individually. Much more than $65! YouTube has video of previous Tejano Conventions and other Tejano Music events----so be sure to look for footage of this year's convention very soon!
Getting ready for another Tejano Filled Day! If you have any questions about the photos, feel free to email me, or post a comment! My email is: info@gritotejano.com If you were there last night and have any photos, or video to share, Agosto 15, 2008
Look for photos from back stage----they are coming soon. (Technical difficulties, member?) Sunny Sauceda is on stage tearin' it up! OMG----THIS IS ANOTHER REASON TO LOVE THE MUSIC GENRE!! The versatility of talent. It is not uncommon to go see a Tejano band and hear them REALLY ROCK OUT---Yes to ROCK---Sunny Sauceda lists Motley Crue as one of his influences---look for his music, here is a link: http://www.migente.com/music/view/artist.html?owner_user_id=5671401 They day has been filled with technical difficulties, but I am on now, Did I mention Cheech Marin is here? All these guys have music you can listen to online ---Google their websites, or YouTube them---Hopefully you won't experience as many problems as I have had when you log on! I couldn't sleep last night because I new today would be an awesome experience. It has been like walking in a dream. All the bands my dad would talk to me are walking around, very accessible---i can just walk up, take a photo and chat. The music lives in my heart, but normally, I just listen to my dad's old records, and cds that i buy over the Internet or where ever I can find them! It is not like back in the day when you could just turn on Kick FM or even further back when Simon the Diamond Molina & Super Loop were on the air. I miss TEJANO RODEO!! I remember going to work at the Downtown Dallas library people would complain about working on Thursday nights---but I loved it! Right after work I head over to Tejano Rodeo to enjoy a beer and the sounds---maybe a dance or two before heading home. Here is a link to some info about Simon the Diamond:
Long Time Tejano Fan and News Librarian for Al Dia ---Carolina Martinez Tejano Music has always played in the sound track of my life---having roots in Corpus Christi, TX, I suppose it was inevitable! My Dad brought Tejano into my life through his stories of the bailes grandes in Corpus and with his 8-tracks & albums. Here are some of the bands:
