National Tejano Convention-Day 2: Reflections

Random thoughts/quotes that stood out from yesterday's forums...

There were many great points brought up at a forum yesterday called Tejano Music Today, the state of the industry...here are a few:

Tejano music really hitting in pockets of Mexico.

Music is cyclical---It wasn't long ago people were saying Rock was dead, and then came Nirvana

Pronunciation of Spanish lyrics is very important!

Later at the Fan Fare ....

The sounds were amazing! The pace and rhythm of walk was controlled by the music---Tejano Sound Band from Lansing, Michigan was the first band I heard.

I recall walking around the booths simply amazed at the accessibility to the bands, and LEGENDARY PIONEERS of Tejano Music!

Oh, and the sounds---so many bands, so little time.

Everyone I met was so friendly!

I didn't know Elida Reyna had a line of cosmetics, but she had a booth set up there for her music and cosmetic line. http://elidaonline.com/Elida_Cosmetics.html

Even Later at the Dance...

I arrived early and couldn't believe the set up---I guess I wasn't expecting so many tables and chairs---and later a majority of were filled, but not all of them.

Although I was told tonight we should expect an even bigger turnout.

At one point it was announced that there were people present from least 20 states! I know there were folks from California, Illinois, Michigan, Missouri, Colorado, and of course Texas---so I wonder about the other 14 states. Hmm...

Frustrated with technology, and trying to absorb everything going on I was wishing everyone could be there to experience this, or at least have an opportunity to see it televised!

Hey, wait a minute---why isn't there a local show like that somewhere in North Texas?! I know in Corpus Christi there is the Domingo Live! Show, and there was also Johnny Canales Show.

Maybe there is and I just can't get it in Red Oak where I live!

IF YOU CAN MAKE IT TONIGHT, TICKETS ARE $65.00 www.tejanoticket.com

Some folks might think that is too much for one night and I can see why, especially with the price of gas to get here if you are coming from out of town, and then costs for food and hotel----but if you think about it, how much would you end up paying to see each of these artists in travel and cover charges individually. Much more than $65!

YouTube has video of previous Tejano Conventions and other Tejano Music events----so be sure to look for footage of this year's convention very soon!

Great coverage! Really like your insights. Almost makes up for not being there in person!
